POSITION FILLED AS OF OCTOBER 2008.
We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and multitalented DBA professional to own the administration, development, backup, recovery, and tuning of database components. A portion of your time will be spent performance tuning and maintaining existing development databases, profiling, trending, troubleshooting/issue resolution, and implementing system security; as well as other operational and development DBA requirements. This position also provides support for services such as registration, billing, customer service tools, as well as supporting business initiatives such as conversion analysis, data access APIs exposed to clients and promotional programs.
The successful candidate must be able to plan, implement, and maintain DB operational services as well as develop database architectural and script based components. Linux administration & scripting as it pertains to a DBA, and database experience in open source databases such as MySQL utilizing the InnoDB engine is required.
Experience in a production environment and warehousing experience is required. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of all technologies and product offerings related to database systems in a collaborative environment with external partners, operations staff, software development engineers, and executives.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain our relational databases and assist in the data modeling, development, and implementation of policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of all company databases.
- Monitor and manage database performance tuning, capacity planning, replication, and other distributed data issues through their lifecycle and validate the technical solution meets the business requirements.
- Work directly with engineers on data modeling, logical/physical schema design, SQL query tuning and the application of data related business rules; while assisting in troubleshooting, debugging and issue resolution.
- Install and maintain database products, including patch application and upgrade to our environments, then implement those changes to our development, test, and production environments
- Create new database infrastructure components for our hosted ASP model, and write procedures and functions to automate routine maintenance tasks as appropriate
- Collaborate with Executives to design and manage all corporate metadata; execute and accounting warehouse based BI solutions and automated metrics/reports to satisfy business requirements and facilitate data sharing B2B
- Complete complex assignments requiring technical knowledge and experience to develop and implement creative solutions.
Requirements:
- BA/BS: IS, CIS, CS, related technical degree; or equivalent applicable industry experience
- 4 years minimum of Production DBA experience
- Knowledge of failover and redundancy technologies and data modeling
- Experience working in latest release versions of MySQL 5.1+ and previous experience design and maintenance of MySQL honed ETL procedures and routines
- A proven track record of leveraging data transport syntax such as XML to enable information sharing B2B and to our hosted products.
- Excellent oral and written communications skill with a high degree of initiative and the ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments
- Experience with backup and recovery solutions including planning, implementing and periodic evaluation of backup/recovery (offline/online) strategies, recovery catalog, fast recovery strategies, and interfacing with third party products and hardware
- High level of experience with schema optimization techniques, SQL level tuning, instance level tuning, storage tuning and replication based solutions, as well as solid understanding of capacity planning and traffic modeling.
- Development of stored procedures, user defined functions and other appropriate access points for our proprietary systems; definition of business rules to enforce a common level of referential integrity and application of those rules to the benefit of the service and customers.
- Linux monitoring and tuning techniques as they pertain to a DBA
Bonus:
- Knowledge of online analytical processing (OLAP) tools and data-mining software
- Expert in partitioning schemes & pruning, data cubes, custom reporting solutions, PL/SQL & T-SQL program units, PL/SQL optimization techniques, ADT & OO database object experience
- MSSQL, PostgreSQL and/or Oracle a plus; other data warehousing platforms also highly regarded
- Web scripting familiarity in PHP, .NET and/or Java a plus!
- Experience working under Agile software development methodologies; specifically SCRUM.
- 2+ years of working experience in a mission critical environment (Data Center, 365×24x7)
